'Tower Hotel' began to operate in 1866 but moved to its present location on Main Street in 1910. In 1946 Tower Hotel was bought by the Humphrey family and fifty Guyanese shareholders. At this time the Hotel was renamed Hotel Tower Limited (HTL).

In 1988 the Hotel undertook a massive renovation programme to expand the Hotel and develop the Emerald Tower Rainforest Lodge. Today, the Hotel offers brand new rooms and facilities and excellent service that has earned the Hotel respect as one of the premier Hotels in Guyana.
